About the Show: GREASE
Grease by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey opened in 1971 in Chicago and premiered on Broadway in 1972. The musical, set to a rock-and-roll score, explores the joys and pains of high school as portrayed by members of two gangs in 1959. As of 2011, "Grease" is Broadway's 14th longest-running musical, with 3,388 performances. The 1978 film version earned almost $400 million worldwide.
Rydell High is filled with rebellious, thrill-loving students. In the midst of this scene, Sandy Dumbrowski enters as the new girl in school. It turns out that she and the leader of the Burger Palace Boys gang, Danny Zuko, have had a brief love affair the summer before. When the two end up together at the same school, conflict arises as the they struggle to find their identity and rekindle their relationship around their schoolmates. Throughout the story the students deal with love, gang violence, teen pregnancy, and friendship.
Doors open 30 minutes before curtain and the running time is 2 hours and 25 minutes with intermission. The director rates this show PG-6th grade for mild language and brief discussions of teen pregnancy.
