When the draft selects rock star Conrad Birdie, his fans are devastated, but none more than his agent and struggling songwriter Albert Peterson whose new song Birdie was just about to record. Albert's longtime girlfriend, Rosie, pushes Albert to write a new tune that Birdie will perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. The scheme works, with young Ohio teenager Kim McAfee declared the winner, but no one has counted on the jealousy of her boyfriend or the upheavel in this sleepy American town that Birdie will cause when he comes to town.
The Director has rated this production PG for 1950's teenage angst and dialogue about alcohol and smoking..
